I cannot begin to express my disappointment RSCs Donner Pass route (released yesterday). In fact I will not say much at all, because other voices are already piling it on faster than I can keep up, and I agree with the majority of what is being said. I can only hope that RSC will listen to its community and take the time which is needed fix the route, and make it as good or even better than the Horseshoe Curve, which should be their measuring stick because the detail, and experience is spot on.
I believe Railworks has all the tools needed to be the best platform around for running trains. If you have any doubts then take a look at the Horseshoe Curve (by RSC) or Portland Terminal (by G-TraX), and some of the freeware routes available: Montour, Big Horn Sub, C&O Alleghany, and if you are tempted to try a beta, Seattle Route (which is teaching me a thing or two), and this is just to name a few! These are the routes which truly define what this simulator is about. I can only hope that RSC wakes up and takes the position lost to them, as the leader of not only the product, but the community they created around them.

Snowy Winter Nights
I have a few Christmas cards to share today...the stamp I used is called Snowy Winter Nights by Hero Arts. I stamped it in Versamark Ink on plain white card, then heat embossed it using Vintage Peacock embossing powder by WOW. I added a sentiment (from the Scribbly Christmas set by Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonmous), then distressed the edges a little.
The embossing powder is a really pretty mixture of teal and black glitter...beautiful in real life, but so tricky to capture in a photo...but I tried my best!

If you are using Websense Web Security 7.6 or newer and trying to allow a website by using unblock or recategorize features and if you are still not able to access to the website as I have experienced this behaviour with www.bugme not.com site, this is related to a new mechanism of force comes with 7.6 and newer versions. Because it continues to block the address if it is in a risky category, even you create an allow rule.
But you can override this feature by editing your eimserver.ini file
To do this open your eimserver.ini file add SecurityCategoryOverride=OFF under [FilteringManager]section and restart the filtering service.

I have had and loved my Lampe Berger for many years(although I always spell it wrong and put a t at the end..even on my label). In fact, I love it so much I have two of them. One is pretty and sits on my shelf as decoration (I do use it) and the other is plain but get used very frequently. Both have different scents in them so I dont have to change the scents.
Well now everyone in my family now has one and I thought I might be able to add this to my Christmas spa baskets. In case you are new to this series, here is my running list of spa related items I making (and sharing with you):
- Lavender bath salt ($2) DONE
- Lavender sugar scrub ($2.50) DONE
- Lavender scented wax cubes ($0.50) DONE
- Spa towel ($7)
- Lavender scented Catalytic Lamp oil (you know like Lampe Berger oil) ($2.50) DONE
- Lavender linen water ($1.50)
- Lavender reed diffuser (Not done yet so I dont have an approximate cost)
So to go along with my spa basket, I made a few different scents for the oils. I made a Lavender (of course), a Fir scent to burn during Christmas time and an Orange scent. I am a huge fan of anything scented orange but I dont find it really strong enough in this recipe. I did love the Fir version.
Materials:
- 16 oz or 473ml of Isopropyl alcohol (91% or higher)
- 1 tablespoon Essential oil
- 1 tablespoon distilled water
Method:
Remove 2 tablespoons of alcohol from the jar.You can purchase this from Walmart, drug stores, etc for usually under $2.If you are making a few of these, save the alcohol and you can make a small batch with all the 2tbsp. This is to make room in the bottle for the 2 tablespoons of liquid you will be adding. So if there is a lot of room at the top of the bottle, you dont have to do this.
Add 1 tablespoon of distilled water and 1 tablespoon of the essential oil scent you want the the bottle of Isopropyl alcohol.
That is it! It really is that easy.
If you want to decorate the bottle, remember to be careful about covering over the warning labels. I decided to cover mine but I did not secure it so it can easily be removed after it is given as a gift.

I am quite worried for my main data sources related to my blog. Skype provides through an RSS-feed �real time� data concerning �Users Online Now� and �Total Skype Downloads�.
Well, some months ago the �Users Online Now� stopped working (it shows 0 users online) and since Tuesday afternoon (somewhere around 13h30 GMT) the cumulative counter of Skype downloads got stuck on 1,168,075,188 downloads.
Downloading isn�t impaired (i tried and succeeded to download), therefore the counter is �broken�. I hope this is a temporary problem, because my blog lives from those numbers.
Anyway, the most important number, being the �Users Online Now� or �People Online� as it is called in the Skype Client is still available through the Skype Client itself in the "Skype Contacts" tab.

This post is not about his layout but I present this recent post with his thoughts on a possible direction to keep the hobby from dying away.
Trevors post is based on a speech he gave recently at a convention and I ask you to have a read and to also read the comments at the end of his post, thought provoking, I believe he may be onto something.

I have been taking another look at PageFlow in the Exactly App on the iPhone. Here are a few screenshots taken while using the App to skim through the current issue of Dazed & Confused:

The slider bar indicates how far through you are (here 98/132pp)Exploring this PageFlow is a most enjoyable experience, but it is also leading me to think some more about the uses and advantages of pagination in the magazines and books that we read as digital editions.
- First, a note of thanks to Apple. The new o/s 3.0 for the iPhone is nifty and is making Apps like Exactly much faster and more fluid. Exactly must be using a fair amount of computation to throw those perspectival views of pages through the small screen at a rapid rate. The images in PageFlow mode are only thumbnails, but they are after all images...
- The Exactly App provides the page-flow view of the publication when the iPhone is oriented 90� counterclock-wise. This is natural to the extent that the horizontal iPhone is appropriate for an open book/magazine. But it is very handy that the device can also be used (the other way up) for reading a selected page with a full horizontal screen (more space for long lines, which one finds in magazines and large format books).
- It turns out that Exactly needs to know whether pages are recto or verso..... it is funny the way that even small corners, and seemingly recondite corners, of our traditional understanding of what a book is, turn out to be important. The reason in this case is that the way Exactly works, recto and verso pages have different perspective views projected on the screen, verso pages only flow on the left of the screen and the recto flow on the right, as is only to be expected! Of course that matters, but who would have thought that mattered when we started out. Why (in abstract) should digital editions care about recto and verso?
- This idea of a magazine or book with its PageFlow coursing through the device is compelling. So it is completely appropriate that the pages are indeed flowing into and out of the device as the App is being used. The magazine is not stored on the device. The cloud is delivering the flow and, although pumping out richly illustrated pages may look like an expensive solution for a mobile reader, the fact of cloud-based delivery means that what was expensive is now cheap. The iPhone is turning out to be a general-purpose device which is wonderfully complementary to cloud-based services.
- Although the Exactly App does not store the magazine or book on the iPhone, it does remember where it was the last time the App was used. This ability for the App to open again at the page (in PageFlow mode if that is where the reader was) is a charming and personal touch. The reality of books and magazines is that we remember where we are in them, and if our software does this for us that is a lot better than dog-earing the paperback.

Papers are solicited for the CMU Sphinx Workshop for Users and Developers (CMU-SPUD 2010), to be held in Dallas, Texas as a satellite to to ICASSP 2010.
CMU Sphinx is one of the most popular open source speech recognition systems. It is currently used by researchers and developers in many locations world-wide, including universities, research institutions and in industry. CMU Sphinxs liberal license terms has made it a significant member of the open source community and has provided a low-cost way for companies to build businesses around speech recognition.
The first SPUD workshop aims at bringing together CMU Sphinx users, to report on applications, developments and experiments conducted using the system. This workshop is intended to be an open forum that will allow different user communities to become better acquainted with each other and to share ideas. It is also an opportunity for the community to help define the future evolution of CMU Sphinx.
We are planning a one-day workshop with a limited number of oral presentations, chosen for breadth and stimulation, held in an informal atmosphere that promotes discussion. We hope this workshop will expose participants to different perspectives and that this in turn will help foster new directions in research, suggest interesting variations on current approaches and lead to new applications.
Papers describing relevant research and new concepts are solicited on, but not limited to, the following topics. Papers must describe work performed with CMU Sphinx:
- Decoders: PocketSphinx, Sphinx-2, Sphinx-3, Sphinx-4
- Tools: SphinxTrain, CMU/Cambridge SLM toolkit
- Innovations / additions / modifications of the system
