We Are With You A Tribute to all Protestants from Jadavpur University

If it was necessary to brutally, physically attack students of one of the most esteemed universities of India, then we might think of many more things necessary to eradicate the corrupt, insane and maniacal party that is currently residing in this so called system.I have always been maintaining a certain professionalism while writing political, but the limits - every limit has been crossed. And it cannot be accepted anymore. We,students, are disgusted and agitated. How dare the police act like that with the students? This is an universal insult to students. After this, the police will rush in the middle of History Class when school students are reading about Russian Revolution or daring to pronounce the name of any other communist or socialist parties.Or anything they do - perhaps singing inside the campus will be stated not allowed. No one has given any party the monopoly right to convert our prestigious institutions into prison cells. We are not prisoners,we are students. Moreover, forces cannot be allowed like that into a college without proper arrest warrant and the students cannot be carried off in police vans in the middle of the night with no trace of any documentation but harsh voices and boots and brutal attacks.

Is that the way you treat young women?Really? You have no right to physically assault any woman,no matter how big criminals they are.And I do not understand how you pick students up and physically assault them and then do not accept FIRs. What democracy are you talking about? This is not just about SFI. This is not just about Jadavpur University. This is happening everywhere.Today, can someone answer what justice we were able to bring for Sudipto Gupto? This terrorist governance murdered that boy and nothing happened.Simply nothing happened.Just someone lost his life. You are responsible for ending your reign. If you want to know what is going on in West Bengal (if anyone outside India is reading this),please go watch The Great Dictator and I would not have to explain it anymore.

Please Like The Facebook Hokkolorab (These are two Bengali words.Hok means Let it happen and Kolorab means Noise) Page to support us in this protest. The protest is gradually getting internationalised and we hope to gain support from every student with a proper moral base.

Thanks to all of you.Raising your voice is important. No matter how little part of the struggle it gets to be.Millions of droplets will make an ocean.Long Live Revolution!

Ivy Bean A Fun Read

Growing up were you ever pressured to be friends with the kid next door? I was. Ester L. and I were the same age so it was assumed by our well-meaning families that we should and would be friends. And while I did play with her, it was only when there was no one better around. (Im pretty sure she felt the same about me.) Luckily for Ivy and Bean, two next-door neighbors in an early chapter book by the same name, their friendship--after a rocky beginning--has a happier ending. Written by Annie Barrows and illustrated by Sophie Blackall, Ivy + Bean features two spunky seven-year-old girls, each one pressured by her mother to become friends.

Bean, a sassy, puddle-stomping spitfire, takes an instant dislike to Ivy when she moves into the house across the street. Ivy seems boring and nice, not friend material at all. The pair unite when they take on Beans eleven-year-old sister Nancy. Ivy, although quiet and seemingly demur, has hidden qualities--she can belch on demand and shes a witch, or at least a witch in training. The two girls join forces to create a spell that will have Nancy dancing nonstop. By the end of the day the pair have pulled off the spell with hilarious results and in the process have become fast friends. Since that first book, six more in the series have been published.

The latest just came out and is titled Ivy + Bean: Whats the Big Idea? This time out the girls team up as scientists for the schools science fair. They have a modest project. End global warming. Should be a blast!

How to Get Back Into Your Routine After a Break

At various times, we take breaks from the normal run of life. Sometimes, this is due to work itself (e.g. a conference) and sometimes its a vacation. Whatever the reason, theres always going to be a transition period where you need to get back into your regular working routine once you come home.

Instead of getting hugely stressed trying to catch up, heres a simple five-step process to getting back into your normal routine:

  1. Clear Urgent Tasks Before You Leave
When youve got a planned break like a vacation coming up, make an effort to prepare for it. Most of us do this naturally, but it can be too easy to stick our heads in the sand and hope that everything will magically come together!

One crucial thing to do is to clear anything urgent before you go away. Obviously youll take care of tasks which need to be done before you go – but look ahead a bit for deadlines that occur soon after your return. You dont want to be frantically trying to complete that big report on your first day back in the office.

Sometimes, of course, a break may be unplanned – due to illness or a family emergency, for instance. In that case, you may need to hand over or delegate any tasks with upcoming deadlines: dont assume that youll necessarily be back in the office as quickly as youre hoping.
  2. Plan a Couple of Catch-Up Days
We often think that we can go straight from vacation mode back into work mode – but its worth planning some transition time. Book an extra day off so that youve got time to get over your jetlag and catch up with your laundry. At work, dont schedule meetings for your first day or two back in the office – treat these as "catch-up" days: youll need to clear that email backlog!

If you work for yourself, this is just as crucial. You may even want to tell clients that youre away for a bit longer than you really are ... this gives you a chance to catch up on things without dealing with phone calls or sudden requests.
  3. Ease Yourself Back In
Have you ever come back from a conference or vacation and thrown yourself straight back into work, only to end up feeling exhausted? You may well have been busy – even if its not directly on work – during your vacation, and the switch back into your regular routine can take a toll.

Instead of trying to be superman or superwoman, how about easing yourself back into work or life gently? Tackle some simple tasks instead of something high-powered; where youve got control over your own schedule, try working a half day or two at first, in order to get back into "work mode". If your break was partly for stress-relief, theres no sense in coming straight back to the usual busyness!
  4. Make and Follow a To-Do List
I find that after a break, its hard to remember exactly what I was working on or what needs to be done next. Rather than grabbing the first task which presents itself to your mind, sit down for ten – fifteen minutes and make a list of what needs to be done. This helps you prioritize, so that you dont end up trying to cram loads into your first days back at your desk.

A to-do list is also a good way to battle overwhelm: you wont be worrying that youve forgotten about something vital, and you can focus on just completing one task then moving on to the next.
  5. (Re)-Establish Good Habits
If youve had a long break, it can take time to get back into your usual good habits. Perhaps you find yourself chatting too much when you should be working, or your mind wanders constantly when youre trying to focus. Work on getting back into your good habits.

In some cases, you may want to use your return from a break as a chance to establish some good habits. Often, a vacation or other break from work can help us to come back into our "normal" life with a fresh perspective. Is there anything which needs to change? Perhaps you want to make a real effort to finish work on time each day, or maybe youve realized that if your inbox can survive untended for a week, you dont need to check emails at 8am every day.
How do you get back into your usual routine (or even a better routine!) after taking a break? What tips would you add?

Implementing a 1 1 iPad Scheme Insights

This is a really well written article about the logistics of a 1-to-1 iPad rollout. The author, Steven Pearce, is the Head of Secondary School at the Nexus International School Malaysia. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator and presents regularly about Digital Learning at Conferences. Steven has set out how his school went about the roll out and how they solved some of the concerns. Steven also suggests that the fact that they had the staff on board and had already performed a 1-to-1 Laptop roll made the whole process easier. This is his insights into how his school went about this process.
Planning is always the key to implementing any new mobile device scheme into an educational establishment. Many questions need to be asked and solved in order for the scheme to be successful. Having already implemented a very successful 1:1 Macbook Pro laptop scheme, the ease of implementing a 1:1 iPad scheme is somewhat easier. Like most developments in education it is very important to have your staff (the teachers) on board and willing to adjust their pedagogy style to adapt to new uses of technology and learning in the classroom.

I have tried to include relevant areas to consider when implementing a 1:1 iPad scheme, however this list may change depending your school, the type of establishment and other educational considerations – (especially budgetary).

Areas to consider:
1. Wireless Network
2. iPad Device Management .
3. iPad Protection
4. Application Management
5. Content Management
6. Pedagogy, Teaching Styles and Professional Development
7. The Possible Downsides
8. Costs and the Community
